EGG
EGG
BENOY.P.J
Thus was shaped the egg
With one in it
Crouching to fit in and
Waiting for the shell to break.
(Was there a shell? A cell?
Yes, yes, you could see it around you
Even while you were tempted to leave it alone
So that others could
Describe its splendid shape and be at ease.).
“Can we call it minimal?
Culture at its holiday best?.”
It fits in so well
In the scheme of things
Does not engage any more space
Than that is allotted to it.
Silence is ensured,
The pleasures of delivery
Without the ambiguities of life.
The shape is perfect
As long as one is not caught inside,
But what if you are,
What if you are?
Why do you try to come out,
Historic embryo
Why do you want to move,
If that disturbs the peace of this arrangement?
Listen to the music that plays out
As you are taken to the frying pan,
Is it not enough?
Kick out, break the shell
If at all you want to be,
Put a new shape on things,
There is no other way out.
