CLIMBING AND FALLING

BENOY.P.J

Why does it happen
That this sky is so low?
This guy is so low
And this  sky is so low.

Why does it happen
That this mountain has goosebumps
And sits hard on rainclouds
As  the blood pumps
With the loudness of drums
While the sax plays a lone tune
Climbing and falling.

Why does it turn out
That the wind is so hard
That this tree is so bent
And this guy is so high
Climbing and falling,
And climbin’ an’ fallin’.

There is plumbin’ and waterin’
And drilling and marching
And a net is being pulled in
Cunning and silent.
There is medicine for snoring
And medicine for waking
There is medicine for walking
And medicine for dreaming
The curious are staring
And it is climbing and falling.

 The  hay is all wet
And the corn is all gone.
The  sparrows and sorrows
Have   something in common
There is sunlight aplenty
And  a hole in the air.
There is marching and roaring
And  banning and yawning
It is climbing and falling

It is climbing and falling.

THE GIANT COMPASS

THE GIANT COMPASS

BENOY.P.J

To tell you the truth,
I don’t know
Whether east is where
It was
Or whether the west has shifted any.
Whether
The mirror lies when it says
That I write with my left hand.
I am not at all sure about what I am in
And what lies round the bend
‘the world is round’
I comfort myself
And everybody move on
With this uncertainty
Between their thighs.
The spider of power
With its many thousand legs
And its new kids that have grown out of Oedipus
The all too clever ones who have
 Just one giant compass
To look to
One that had grown too large
That to look at it
Would be even more baffling.
Narcissus has been given his rope to hang on
And things are as fair as fair things could go
Still, things are not as still
As the water in the bucket
The movement that one calls darkness
Envelopes them
Giving them form
And making fuzzy

The contours.
